The Beginning

Gosh, I haven't written a blog post in 3 years! It has been a whirlwind of activity, for sure! The kids have gone from showing just horses to showing horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and in 2022, pigs. It's been a trip, let me tell you! Some things had taken place to cause all of this, but we'll get more into that in a sec! I am a mom of 4; The NP kid, the GAMER, THAT child and the BABY. My husband is affectionately known as the BEAST in my blog posts. The NP kid is 18 and will graduate high school in the spring. The GAMER is 17 and will also graduate this spring. He is living with his dad in Minnesota, currently. THAT child is in 5th grade, and the BABY is in 1st grade. I think that's probably all the background context that you need for now...

In the past few years we had gotten involved in showing horses in an association close-ish to home. When that got to be repetitive and not so much fun anymore, the NP child decided that she wanted to show cattle. We got a registered Simmental, and that started the whirlwind that was balancing cattle shows and horse shows. We then ended up with a show steer, and a dairy cow, 3 sheep, 11 goats....Yeah. All the kids love showing all the animals. They ended up with a lot of county fair awards this year, and I couldn't be prouder of them.

The NP child is in a vicious cycle right now of applying for scholarships. She has been accepted to a private university and offered an athletic and an academic scholarship, but it's a bit short of what she needs to totally cover tuition.

THAT child just finished the Mighty Mite football season. He actually even got to play a bit!

The BABY is just the sweetest thing. She wants to get a show calf for herself, too. We shall see.

The BABY and the NP child and I recently went to a day camp for children, where the BABY learned how to show a pig, and the NP child volunteered her time to teach a boy how to show cattle. It was an extremely rewarding experience, and we all had an absolute blast. The NP child was also awarded a scholarship!!  I am starting my blog over again because we are about to embark on a crazy busy show season... And it's going to be hectic!  Good luck stock show moms!
